At a time when most students are figuring out what major they would like to have postgrad, a 2025 Commack alum has already taken a step that many take later in life: becoming a business owner.
Devon Geiger, owner and founder of Road to Success, planted the business seed during his senior year of high school. According to Geiger, it all started November 2024 when he first began looking at samples of potential products and the idea gained traction and became official towards the end of the school year.
Road to Success sells and produces custom college road signs for future college students. These road signs show the students’ high school, future college, and the mileage from the high school to the college. Along with that, the road sign is decorated with the college colors and mascot.
“I saw how big the college announcements were, so I wanted to make a product that reflected that,” said Geiger.
Geiger started his company after seeing the immense popularity of bed decoratings, college commitments, and senior celebrations with students. With this idea he wanted to give back to his community.
“Then the company just took off. Seeing people happy, all the bed parties, college decor […] That’s what really pushed me to do this. I wanted to make a product to expand the college market,” said Geiger.
Instantly, Road to Success took off. It received praise from not only the Commack community but also internationally. Geiger stated that he even began packaging orders from Qatar, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
“I really learned to balance everything. School, social life, production, social media and shipping. It was a big challenge figuring everything out but I had a lot of support when it first started with my friends and family filming content with me,” said Geiger.
Not only did Geiger begin Road to Success while in high school, he also had support from his friends, family, and teachers. Without the vast assistance from these people, the mission and growth of the company would not be as it is today.
“You know, people reposting and sharing, sharing through other people boosts the views and the popularity. My friends always repost everything which helps me a lot,” said Geiger.
Geiger’s high school business teacher, Erin Mascaro, was also one of his main supporters and mentors. Given her past in marketing and current position in the business realm, she is a strong asset for him to use.
“For me to be his mentor, I just listened. I questioned, I listened to his ideas, I supported his ideas, I gave him advice. I was always just trying to make him see his strengths,” said Mascaro.
Geiger’s personality, attitude, and motivation left Mascaro knowing that he was bound to be successful and achieve something amazing. The amount of work he put in and the attitude he had toward it proved his “mission statement.”
“He always had this creative charge within him. He always was idea generating, thinking, creating, pitching ideas and that [was] whether he was in my classroom or he wasn’t, he was always stopping by and sharing,” said Mascaro.
In the future, Geiger would like to expand Road to Success to more than just road signs. Moving and shifting the market to have college related products including custom college merchandise, partnering with brands and the universities and schools themselves.
Road to Success offers 2 sizes of road signs, large and regular. The larger sized sign is priced at $64.99 and regular is priced at $54.99.
