Augustus Contressa, more commonly known among his students as Auggie, Mr. Contressa, or Coach Contressa, has had a successful journey since he started his football career as a student at Commack High School.
Contressa went on to play college football, and was drafted for multiple National Football League teams.
“I graduated in 2016, and during high school I was a two-time captain for our varsity football team,” said Contressa.
After a rewarding starting career in high school, Contressa then began sending out his film for colleges.
“I always dreamed of playing in college. I sent my film out, and Stony Brook offered a walk on spot. After my first year there, they offered me a scholarship,” said Contressa.
At Stony Brook University, Contressa completed many career milestones. In his senior season, 2020-2021, Contressa earned second team All-CAA Football, made the Fall CAA Football Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, and was his team’s captain.
After college, Contressa declared for the NFL draft. On the 3rd and final day of the draft, he received a phone call from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“On the 3rd day of the draft, they called me and put me on their team as an undrafted free agent,” said Contressa.
He was also asked to try out with the New England Patriots.
“There was also a possibility to get drafted with [the Patriots]. Out of all of the guys trying out, only two of them made it, there were positional problems between me and what they wanted,” said Contressa.
Contressa now works at his alma mater, Commack High School. He is a physical education teacher and the coach of the varsity football team.
“That’s what’s cool about being back here, you get to share your experiences to help students and if anyone is going through something similar,” said Contressa.
Contressa sees his past as a helping hand in mentoring and training his students and athletes as he was also in the same shoes not that long ago. ◼️
