From “How I Met Your Father” to “Walker,” Ashley Reyes’ career has taken her on a journey through the entertainment industry.
Reyes, who graduated from Commack High School in 2013, was an active member of the theater program, which would help guide her towards her future career. One particular high school production that stood out to Reyes was “Little Women”, specifically her role of Jo March.
“Honestly, to this day it’s one of the most challenging things I’ve ever had the opportunity to do,” said Reyes.
After graduating from CHS, Reyes attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, which prepared her to take on the roles that she would play in her future.
“It gave me all of the tools I needed to be a professional,” said Reyes.
An early milestone in Reyes’ career was her role in “The Play That Goes Wrong”, where she worked her way up from an understudy to a lead role.
“I wish I could do it again all over because it was really a gift to be able to hear people laughing every night and to feel that rush,” said Reyes.
Following her time doing live theater on Broadway, Reyes switched her focus to TV when she got a job on a show. However, this show would be heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond the impact that the pandemic had on the show, it also put Reyes’ career in a difficult position.
“ […] We talked about doing premieres and red carpets and then I was in my house, in pajamas, with no auditions, no sign of work for the foreseeable future. […] So instead of being in a room with casting directors, I was now in my living room with a camera in front of me just hoping for the best,” said Reyes.
Following this period of stagnation, Reyes began filming for the series “Walker” for The CW Network.
“That was my favorite job I’ve ever had. I moved to Texas for two and a half years to shoot the show. I learned how to ride horses. I [..] learned everyday,” said Reyes.
Reyes also highlighted how this show gave her the experience to work with Jared Padalecki, whose presence on the show continued to impact her even after it ended.
“He showed up to set everyday, he knew his lines, he knew everybody else’s lines, he knew storylines, he was incredible. […] He’s a dear friend now because you feel safe with him,” said Reyes.
After three seasons of working on Walker, Reyes made an appearance on “The Morning Show.” After multiple TV roles, Reyes now hopes to return to live productions.
“And so I’m hoping that now going back and having a whole resume behind me, it’ll open up some more doors where I’ll be able to do more plays […] on-Broadway, off-Broadway because that’s really what I love more than anything,” said Reyes.
Another aspiration Reyes has for her future is getting more involved in the behind the scenes elements of the industry.
“I would love to be leading a show and directing as well. I love being behind the camera,” said Reyes.
Ashley Reyes has had a fruitful acting career that’s led her to many unique opportunities, which will impact her future both behind and in front of an audience.
