The annual Hallway Night, which is a part of Battle of the Classes, was held on March 4.
Hallway Night is an event where students stay after school to support their class and decorate their designated hallway that corresponds to a theme. Students hung up displays, added 3D elements, and transformed the hallways to reflect the theme. The class boards and many students of each class spent countless hours preparing for this event.
“Hallway Night was an incredibly tiring ordeal, however it filled the board and our class with a huge sense of accomplishment. Bringing so many people from my grade together to work as one was really exciting. Managing over 60 students was also incredibly stressful as well, but [the final result] was very rewarding,” said freshman Samuel C., president of the class of 2029.
The overall theme of Hallway Night for 202 was Pixar movies. Every class chose a movie that reflected their class color. The class of 2029 chose “Cars” to represent red, the class of 2028 selected “Monsters, Inc.” for blue, the class of 2027 chose “Toy Story” for green, and the class of 2026 selected “Inside Out” for yellow.
“I actually did love [the theme], I thought it was so cute and nostalgic. Originally we were going to choose “Monster, Inc.” because we thought it was more green but then in the end we were so happy with “Toy Story” because there were so many things we could make. Also the theme reminded me so much of my childhood,” said junior Cassidy G., SFAC representative of the class of 2027.
The following morning, each class showcased their hallway to school administrators, who then ranked them from 1st to 4th place.
“I was very satisfied with our results. Our hallway represented a story which is what the other classes didn’t do. You enter the hallway and it’s the primary schools which is the start of our Commack journey and then as you travel down the hallway you reach your high school years and look at where we are now. We see our bad memories and happy memories. We also see the colleges where everyone is going, which is the dream studio of “Inside Out”. “Inside Out” was the perfect theme because we are seniors and reflecting our past 4 years which we made very heartfelt and sentimental to the administrators that judged us,” said senior Daniel M., SFAC representative of the class of 2026.
Class of 2026 was awarded 1st place, class of 2027 was awarded 2nd place, class of 2029 was awarded 3rd place and class of 2028 was awarded 4th place.
“I was happy with the result of the hallway. The rankings, I was not happy with getting 4th place. I know [Holly] Bellisari, [Crystal] Curcio, and many students spent so much of their effort and time for hallway night so it was kind of disappointing to get 4th place. But the greatest comebacks happened after the greatest setbacks. So next year we are going to come back and be more efficient with our board, planning and prepping for the hallway. I feel like this year the class as a whole did not lock in but I do want to thank Mrs. Bellisari and Ms. Curcio for putting so much effort into prepping and decorating for our hallway. Even though we didn’t win first place overall, it won first place in my heart,” said sophomore Shyam D, president of class of 2028. ◼️
