From visiting seniors, helping animals, and preparing for a future career, clubs are helping students find ways to make a difference and get involved.
Many clubs have gained popularity amongst all grade levels. Glamour Gals is a national nonprofit organization created by Commack alum Rachel Doyle. Doyle created this club while she was a junior after she experienced the loss of her grandmother and wanted to create an organization that brings connection with seniors, according to HeartsonFire.org. Teens from all over the country travel to local senior citizen homes and give elderly women manicures and makeovers. Glamour Gals goal is to uplift seniors and to foster intergenerational connections.
“I just started participating but I already love it. It’s been a fun way to get involved in high school while doing something meaningful” said freshman Alicia S.
Another club that’s gaining popularity is Cause 4 Paws, a club that is for students interested in animals, or working with them in the future.
“I think Cause 4 Paws is becoming more known because many people are animal lovers like me and want a good outcome for them,” said sophomore Emily R.
Cause 4 Paws gives members a chance of charity and service, skills that will help them later in life as well.
“This club is special to me because we make and collect different toys, food, or other items that will be donated to animals like dogs or cats in shelters.” said sophomore Emily R.
Additionally, Future Health Professionals is a club that helps students interested in learning about the medical field. They also hold annual blood drives open to anyone 16 years or older.
“I joined Future Health Professionals because I wanted to see if this is somewhere I would want to work in the future and how I may react to certain situations.” said sophomore Carly S., via text message.
Future Health Professionals allows guest speakers to come in and provide first hand perspectives about the medical field, giving students a chance to get information and ask questions.
“I believe more people are joining because they want to help people and experiment with different career ideas before applying to colleges,” said sophomore Carly S. via text message
With so many clubs to choose from, students are finding new ways to get involved, have fun, and give back. These clubs are a great reminder that there’s something for everyone.◼️
