Attending Quinnipiac University
Throughout these past three years, I’ve had the opportunity to discover myself through The Courant. When I first decided to join the publication in my sophomore year, I never thought it would have such a profound impact on my life. This will be my 17th article published in The Courant and will allow me to close off this meaningful chapter of my life.
Reflecting on the articles I’ve written, I can remember countless interviews that taught me so much about a variety of people. Between teachers, students, and alumni, I’ve learned so much more about the Commack community, something I will always be grateful for. Writing for The Courant has taught me not just how to interview, but how to tell personal stories.
This year, I’ve had the privilege to serve as the publication’s Editor in Chief. This position has taught me about responsibility, time management, and communication, which are all skills that will reward me in my future endeavors. Getting to play a role in the publication of each article this year has been thrilling and I’ve gotten to know my fellow writers’ styles and interests. I’m so proud of this year’s editors and writers for all of the work they’ve done this year and all of the growth that I’ve had the privilege to witness. This position has given me a highly valuable experience that I will always look back on fondly.
I could not have made it this far in my journalistic journey without the support I’ve received. I’d like to thank Mrs. Bellisari and Mrs. Mascaro for challenging me to do better, as both a student and a person. I also want to thank Mrs. Black for all of her support and assistance throughout my four years at CHS. I’m so grateful for all of the positive experiences I’ve had inside and outside of Commack High School that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my teachers and advisers.
I want to thank Beyan, Jess, and Neha for all of the work and time they put into The Courant. Thank you to my family, friends, and readers for engaging with my articles throughout the years and supporting student journalism. Finally, thank you to Mrs. Semple for providing me with constant support, lessons, and opportunities to grow as a journalist. The Publishing Suite is where I got inspiration to be a journalist and it will always have a special place in my heart.
Looking towards the future, I’m excited to continue my journalistic endeavors at Quinnipiac University and apply the lessons I’ve learned from The Courant to new publications. Between my editing and writing experience from The Courant and my photography and layout experience from Crossroads Yearbook, I have built the foundation for my future as a journalist. As a journalism student, I look forward to taking what I’ve learned these past three years and gaining new skills to amplify my writing. Even though my time with The Courant is over, I plan on continuing my coverage of news and the arts.
