I am no expert whatsoever in music or in necessarily how it is made, but I do know, in my opinion, that music is one of the most commonly loved things around the world. Many people listen to music in their everyday lives, whether it be just for background noise, in public places or even interests.
Music to me has become such a significant part of my life and I find that many others have felt the same way. There is one thing that actually has had me interested and it is that people’s preference of music is broader than I thought. Personally, I enjoy almost every single genre of music out there and recently have discovered that I really enjoy listening to K-pop.
While most people tend to follow the trend, it is very common for people to learn new songs through social media. Sometimes people simply just know the chorus, which is what I would think is the best part of the song and is kind of like the climax of a story. Still, the fact that people have been open to music that is not necessarily in the same language they speak is something that completely fascinates me and from my own experience has been something that I have truly enjoyed.
I have heard a lot from my family about how shocked people would be when they saw someone who did not necessarily sing a song that was in English. But to be honest, I’ve never really paid too much attention to the lyrics that were being said. Every time I would listen to a song I would just listen to the melody and that was what would bring me in. Now it is not the best way to learn about a song but it has just been something that I have always done.
Now when I think of my childhood and all the songs that were popular, I can’t believe how diverse it has been. I am an ‘07 child and while it was near the end of the 2000’s, I still know all the songs from then. When “Gangnam Style” became the rage and how much people loved “Despacito.” Those songs are not in English, yet people still fell in love with them.
Music has been a way of feeling something that can not be put into words, yet conveys the feeling of the emotion. The power that songs have would always be a mystery to me, but to have realised that people have simply relate with each other from a single song and sometimes may not speak the same language is what makes music so relatable.
I have seen people come together because of a band or a singer or even just to have an enjoyable time listening to music. If that does not show how much people love music, then I guess I have been seeing it wrong. Either way music is something that will continue to grow. While, yes, it might sound like we’re listening to just sound, it is something that has been done in each generation. Just go out there, enjoy listening to the music you like, and the sounds of those musical notes will be the ones to make your day.
