Seeing teachers everyday, solely in the classroom has students questioning their hobbies outside the workplace.
When school is over, teachers go about the rest of their day, living the same normal life as students. In fact some have fascinating hobbies and passions they adhere to after school.
Carmelina Zitarosa, a world language teacher has vocalized her love and desire for traveling the world, especially Italy.
“8 hour flights were just a normal part of life, visiting Europe in the summer to see my Nonna and Nonno. As I grew and learned more in school, I wanted to see more,” said Zitarosa.
As her love for traveling originated in the classroom, Zitarosa has gained inspiration from her past teachers to take on her next adventure.
“My teacher showed the movie “Motorcycle Diaries,” and I decided then and there, at 17, that my next adventure would be south of the border,” said Zitarosa.
This love for travelling the world, meeting new people, and discovering new opportunities was something that Zitarosa was always passionate for.
“At 20 my love for backpacking began. It’s a whole lifestyle born out for one’s love for adventure and learning. Flying to Mexico, walking the shore until we found a place to sleep- nothing on us except what we could carry on our backs,” said Zitarosa.
These exploration tours were spontaneous and were all about discovering the unknown. After Zitarosa soon had a family, she passed down her love of traveling the world to our children.
“My children by the age of two had travelled internationally and had been to more states than I could list,” said Zitarosa.
Zitarosa’s love for travelling grows from the background and culture in which these foreign places hold. Her outside hobby exemplifies her love for the values she developed traveling the world.
Allison Sexton, a history teacher, has a passion for walking and exercising inside and outside of the school building.
She fell into a healthy lifestyle routine at a young age and ever since has only become more dedicated to her healthy ways.
“I began my health journey when I was in high school but started seriously walking during the pandemic,” said Sexton.
Sexton vocalized how walking isn’t only a hobby but also a lifestyle which she loves and strides to accomplish.
“Walking and exercising is a lifestyle that keeps me grounded and energized throughout the day,” said Sexton.◼️
