Students are involved in the school community throughout the week, but use the many places around Commack to relax on the weekends.
While every student has different lives and interests, there are plenty of popular activities that they like to do and plenty of places where friends could meet up.
“[On the weekends, my friends would be] hanging out with their other friends, like probably going somewhere for lunch,” said sophomore Antonella P.
“[I try to spend time with my friends on the weekends] as much as I can,” said freshman Jenna D.
Spending time with family or friends is a popular activity on the weekend and gives more time to learn about each other’s interests out of the hectic weekdays.
“I usually hang out with my family and I go outside,” said freshman Hasina S.
“I like to go out with my friends sometimes, it might be like something casual […] like we’ll go to like Chili’s or we might just go back to one of our houses,” said Antonella.
Visiting a new restaurant or going shopping is another way to spend your weekends, whether you go alone or with your friends or family. There are many places to explore around Commack. As Antonella mentioned, Chili’s is a place that could be considered for a casual lunch. Other students may have their own top food spot, like Jenna, who enjoys going to the Italian restaurant Ragazzi. The Smith Haven or Walt Whitman Malls themselves are filled with places that students can explore and shop in.
“I do shopping a lot so I usually go to the mall, Walt Whitman or Smith Haven mall,” said Hasina, whose favorite store is “Forever 21”.
Volunteering is another way to spend the weekend and get to know the community better.
“I sometimes like to volunteer at my church, it’s […] Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church here in East Northport and […] we do a lot of youth group work,” said Antonella.
An ideal weekend is something that many people dream of, especially if money is no object. Some ideal weekends of students include going to the park, playing games, eating out, shopping, and traveling to someplace new.
Both freshmen claim that work for clubs or homework does not take up much time on their weekends, while on the other hand sophomore Antonella claims that school work does take up some weekend time. This is because of the AP classes, IB classes, and clubs.
“I have a lot of my friends that do like the same things I feel like […] when you have a friend group in a club like […] you get more motivated to do it,” said Antonella.
Weekends are a break from the stress of school or work and can be a time where you get to divulge in your hobbies or visit your friends and family.◼️
