I’ll be honest, even though many people do not really see me with my phone all the time in front of my face, I can not live without it. I constantly check whatever notification I get and I am always watching something on YouTube.
Nowadays technology has become a bit of a problem for people, but the main focus that I see is that people are more concerned with kids using technology. Obviously the way we learn has definitely changed. But before the advancement in technology to what it is now. To know any information about anything, to check if something is spelled a certain way or when Abraham Lincoln died you had to go to the library. Next came the worldwide web and these really old computers that would take a while to load to just get a basic answer. As of now we have a quick, fast and easy way of finding information. Oh! Also, Abraham Lincoln died on April 14, 1865. I looked it up on Google.
It is obvious that the need to be able to comprehend things is not needed as much. I have such easy access to literally anything at my fingertips (like Abraham Lincoln), that I do not really need to remember anything. As I have heard from a lot of adults around me, we have it easier than they did; and they’re not wrong, but we also have similar struggles. It is just not the same anymore and I can see why adults are more concerned about children with technology. It is definitely noticeable.
Communicating, I would say, is not necessarily so great. It is funny when I think about the difference between me in elementary school or middle school to how it is in high school. It is completely different. Now when the teacher ends 2 to 3 minutes early or if I am lucky and it is 5, then the first thing I see everyone do is put their stuff away and then immediately look at their phones. I on the other hand stare at literally anything to wait for the time to go by, but if I was able to be on the internet with unlimited data then I would probably do the same thing.
See, but that’s the thing, when I was in elementary school I always talked to friends when the class ended early. The same went for middle school. The difference is we did not have phones back then, so our only form of entertainment was communicating with each other. I understand the need to be entertained by something and usually the fastest thing is technology, but it is probably something that we should fix, because it is clear that we are not focused on human connection anymore.
At the end of the day though, it is just a basic need to do something, which is normally just aimlessly looking at 10 different things per minute. Yet technology has always been such a blessing and a curse. It is easier to search things, cook things, do basic chores and so on. But, it is a possibility that technology can take our jobs and harm us. The thing is with technology it’s just something that we should be aware of, we don’t need to have it but I and everyone else have gotten so used to it that it feels like we do. If sometime in the future, we were able to be cautious of technology, there should not be much of a worry, but that’s wishful thinking.
As humans we value to learn more about anything and everything, and technology has been that helping hand that makes us want to learn more. Whether or not we are able to adapt from being completely fixated on technology, there’s still a chance that we can really be in harmony with whatever technology we work with and still be able to automatically remember basic common knowledge, like how Abraham Lincoln died on April 14, 1865. Huh! I guess there still is a chance. ◼️
