The members of National Art Honor Society (NAHS) take part in many activities to spread their creativity and fondness for art throughout the school year.
NAHS helps to organize some well known events through the course of the school year. They spend countless hours during and after school brainstorming and building the haunted house for the annual Halloween Happening event. The 2024 theme was “Haunted Hospital,” consisting of rooms such as the emergency room and asylum. The members also put a great amount of time into designing the sets and props for the play and musical, including this year’s Noises Off and Pippin.
“They become like a family […]. They’re using their skills to create and help out with the musical [and] the play, with props and set design,” said adviser Marie Adamo.
In addition to working on school experiences, NAHS takes multiple field trips throughout the year to bring their art to the community. Each winter, they paint holiday murals in the windows of the Lidl supermarket in Mayfair Shopping Center. Additionally, they have created several works of art around the town including a painting for the Pumpkin Patch Nursery School.
“This specific field trip [to Stony Brook Village] is my favorite because as much as I love […] giving back to my community and allowing them to see [the] beautiful art skills we have as highschoolers. I feel like the Stony Brook trip is more of a field trip to just spend time with each other, […] and just do art for leisure,” said senior Jasmine L., president of NAHS.
The teamwork, time, and collaboration necessary to accomplish what the honor society does has built a community and has helped the aspiring artists pursue their interests as a team. The honor society provides students with infinite opportunities to showcase their abilities, gain new ones, and receive mentorship from both peers and advisors.
“The thing I love most about NAHS is the friends it has made me,” said senior member Giuliana A., via text. “Some of the people here are my closest friends and all of that is thanks to our shared love of art and our dedication to it.”
NAHS has aided students to share what they love with the school, create lasting friendships, and produce memories for all pupils.
