Throughout the school year, students at the high school are given many opportunities to join a sport of their choosing.
With three seasons and multiple levels of competition per sport, there are enough spots for everybody.
Students join their respective sports for various reasons. Some join to make friends, while others want to stay physically active. Some may have been introduced to the activity at a young age, while others may be brand new. Others just enjoy playing the games recreationally, while others plan on continuing this passion in college.
“Joining the badminton team at the end of my freshman year was one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. I have made so many friends with similar interests as me and have made so many special memories with them,” said sophomore Juliet J.
Games and practices serve as perfect times to bond with partners and make memories that will last a lifetime. The Scholar Athletes Leadership Club offers its members various opportunities to build connections with those who have similar interests as them.
While teammates are a major component of any athletic activity, some play more for the physical aspect. Amongst all age groups, sports are a very popular choice to stay physically active and healthy.
“Running for the track team allows me to stay physically fit throughout the year, and prepares me for the upcoming soccer season,” said junior Alex C.
Many students start their sport when they are very young, which gives them more experience and practice. For many, the sport is a rite of passage that has been a part of their families for multiple generations.
No matter the deciding factor, many of Commack’s best athletes aspire to continue their passion far beyond high school.
“Baseball has played an enormous role in my life, which has inspired me to pursue it in college,” said junior Chris M.
The opportunities that the school offers its students in the athletics department have fostered a healthy and passionate community. ◼️
