The famous Hunger Games franchise released a new movie on November 17, leaving fans of the series excited.
“The Hunger Games” is a popular dystopian series about 16 year old Katniss Everdeen surviving the Hunger Games and overthrowing the Capitol. Finally, eight years after the release of the last entry, “The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, has hit theaters.
“When I heard the movie was coming out I began counting the days before its release,” said sophomore Mayah D.
On April 27 2023, the trailer for “Ballad of Songbird & Snakes” was revealed. The announcement came as a complete surprise, leaving many Hunger Game fans in shock.
“I thought [the trailer] was very exciting, a lot of people were very excited for [the movie] and I was too,” said sophomore Madeleine M.
In the movie, main character Coriolanus Snow is assigned to mentor the tribute of District 12, Lucy-gray, with the goal to win the 10th annual Hunger Games. This prequel explores the backstory of how the tyrant and cruel leader came to power. Compared to the titular battleground in previous entries, this Hunger Games arena is less advanced and underdeveloped.
Music was also heavily incorporated into the movie with Lucy-gray singing a total of eight times. With her voice she was able to influence both the people in the Capitol and the Districts.
“As a musician I found [the movie] very interesting because music is a big part of the original movies too[…]Lucy-gray is a performer forced to fight and Katniss is a fighter forced to perform,” said Mayah D.
“The Hunger Games” is a novel that many students have read in eighth grade English class. For some students it was their first time hearing about the series, but they started to get hooked and became huge fans.
“I didn’t really know much about [the series], eighth grade was when I began really liking [the series],” said sophomore Katie W.◼️
