Hamlet fest is an annual event that took place on December 19, 2023 in the auditorium by the IB Literature 2 HL students.
Every year the IB Literature 2 HL classes read the play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare as a part of their curriculum. After reading the play in class, the students must then perform a scene from “Hamlet”. The performance takes up a whole school day in the auditorium with the opportunity for other students to attend.
“Hamlet [fest]was a very fun, but hard working experience as I had to learn how to work with the people in my group and try to create the most accurate but understandable play of “Hamlet,” said senior Sophia A.
The purpose of Hamlet fest is to give the IB Literature 2 HL students a greater understanding of literature. They were able to bring the scenes to life to prove their knowledge. Although it is an assignment, the students are able to bring it to life through their perception and have fun with it.
“The purpose [of Hamlet fest] was so students can gain a deeper understanding of a specific scene and understand what is needed to make the words come to life,” said senior Ashley G.
The students put a lot of time and effort into the project. They worked together with their classmates, as they were expected to practice their scenes together. They had to pick a scene and collaborate with their groups to bring a scene from the play to life.
As they had about one to two weeks to prepare, they were required to create the stage directions and memorize their lines in time for the performance.
“With the freedom to pick our scenes and collaborate with a small group, we were able to make it our own. We spent a few weeks discussing and sharing ideas regarding our scene and rehearsed as a group a few times,” said senior Ava S.◼️
