Homecoming was affected by the weather this school year, but the ‘Under the Stars’ comes in as a backup.
The 2023 homecoming festivities unfortunately were affected by the weather, ruining a very popular event. Instead of canceling the event completely, the administration postponed the parade and the half-time show.
“At the moment it was tragic and a little sad, but then I heard it was being moved to the ‘Under the Stars’ soccer game so I was excited about that,” said junior Aidan C.
When the news broke out about the halftime show and parade being moved to the ‘Under the Stars’ games, this created a new excitement. This pulled a new audience to the game, which created a sense of excitement for the teams.
“[The half-time show] was great, my sister is on the kickline team, so I had the opportunity to play in a soccer game and then watch my sister perform,” said senior Stephen F.
This was new for the high school to experience; The kickline team and marching band usually performs at football games, but it was a new experience for them to perform at another popular sporting event, the varsity boys and girls soccer games.
“There was definitely more pressure with the whole community watching, and we had a responsibility to hold up,” said senior Alexandra P.
There might have been extra pressure for the soccer teams knowing there would be more people at this game. As more people heard about these Homecoming events being moved, they became more interested in the soccer event. The soccer team might have felt extra pressure knowing that people who didn’t usually attend their games would be coming.
“The extra really just gave a lot of encouragement to the team and it really [pumped] us up,” said senior Isabella C.
But on the other side, the idea of having new and more people in the crowd gave the teams more encouragement. The teams all might have had a different feeling about their games having more events added to it, but in the end they came together and played their best.
“These events should continuously be together and the [‘Under the Stars’] game because I like how the whole community was dragged together,” said junior Sebastian T.
Although it was tragic for Homecoming to have a few difficulties along with it, it might have also created a bigger event for the support of the soccer teams.🔳
